Transitioning from inconsistent outsourced shoots to an in-house, art-driven photography approach that elevated Native Union’s product imagery
About the project
When I joined Native Union in 2015, their product photography was handled by various external studios, resulting in images that lacked a cohesive aesthetic. Recognizing the need for a consistent, design-forward look, I proposed moving all product and lifestyle shoots in-house. Working in a makeshift studio within our sample stock room, I experimented with simple sets, dramatic lighting techniques, and long exposures to craft a distinct visual language for the brand. By controlling every step – from lighting and composition to post-production – I established a refined, art-driven style that showcased tech accessories as thoughtfully designed objects, rather than ordinary commodities.
Result
Bringing photography production under one roof allowed us to maintain full creative control and ensure every image aligned with Native Union’s evolving identity. The new in-house visuals communicated premium craftsmanship and a minimalist design ethos, setting Native Union apart in a crowded market. This consistent, artful approach not only strengthened our product storytelling but also laid the foundation for ongoing collaborations with design-conscious clients seeking photography that speaks to both function and form.
